The New England Patriots have recruited a former assistant from the Cleveland Browns to serve as their new offensive line coach.

The team is regrouping.

Following the selection of former Cleveland Browns tight ends coach T.C. McCartney as a quarterbacks coach, the New England Patriots are reportedly bringing on board Scott Peters, a former Browns assistant coach, to serve as their new offensive line coach, as reported by Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald.

Peters entered the NFL coaching realm with the Browns in 2020 and collaborated closely with Van Pelt for four seasons. Now, he will reunite with him in New England with the aim of addressing one of the team’s major challenges during the 2023 season.

This move indicates that the Patriots are entrusting Van Pelt to assemble his own offensive coaching staff. According to Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal, the Patriots coaching team aimed to prevent a situation similar to Bill O’Brien’s tenure.

The Patriots are fully embracing Van Pelt’s leadership and giving him autonomy over the offense. The key question remains whether Peters will have the necessary personnel to succeed, a concern that arose last season under Adrian Klemm’s guidance of the offensive line.

The team faced a series of challenges, including injuries, players playing out of position, and overall underperformance. However, this time, the Patriots possess the financial flexibility and draft resources to address these issues. Hopefully, they also have the right coaching staff to guide them through the process.
