Mike Macdonald is contemplating the possibility of bringing on board the NFL’s inaugural British coach with the Seattle Seahawks.
The Seattle Seahawks are contemplating the addition of Aden Durde, who currently serves as the defensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys. If the Seahawks’ pursuit is successful, Durde would make history as the first British coordinator in NFL history. Hailing from London, Durde has swiftly ascended the ranks in the NFL since his start as a quality control coach in 2018, earning recognition under Dan Quinn’s guidance. Following Quinn to the Cowboys, Durde has established himself as one of the league’s most respected positional coaches in just three years.
The Seahawks are undergoing a coaching overhaul following the departure of Pete Carroll, the oldest coach in the NFL, who is being succeeded by the youngest, Mike Macdonald. Macdonald is assembling his inaugural staff with the Seahawks and has already enlisted former Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier as his assistant. While Durde has reportedly interviewed with the Green Bay Packers, the Los Angeles Rams, and the Atlanta Falcons, Seattle appears determined to secure him as their new coordinator.
At 44 years old and hailing from Middlesex, Durde could potentially become the first British coach to assume a coordinator role in the NFL, marking a significant milestone in his coaching career. With previous coaching experience in the British BAFA leagues, Durde made his mark as the defensive coordinator and play-caller for the London Warriors before joining the Falcons in 2018.
If Durde joins the Seahawks, he would contribute to one of the NFL’s youngest coaching teams. The team recently added 34-year-old Jay Harbaugh as their special teams coordinator, who reportedly chose Seattle over an opportunity to join his father, Jim Harbaugh, at the Los Angeles Chargers. Furthermore, Seattle is currently in search of their offensive coordinator, having interviewed Chip Kelly (UCLA head coach), Tanner Engstrand (Detroit Lions quarterback coach), and Ryan Grubb (Washington offensive coordinator).
