Titans intend to include a third quarterback during this offseason.

Although the Tennessee Titans currently have Will Levis at the top of the quarterback depth chart for the 2024 season, the situation behind him is uncertain.

The team’s only other quarterback on the roster is Malik Willis, a third-round pick from 2022, but his place on the team is far from secure after struggling in his first two years in the NFL.

Further complicating Willis’s position is the Titans’ plan to bring in another quarterback to compete with him for the backup role, as revealed by general manager Ran Carthon on Tuesday.

Carthon stated, according to Sam Phalen of AtoZ Sports Nashville, “We’re going to continue to look. We have Malik (Willis) in house and we’re not going to go into training camp with just two quarterbacks… We’re going to bring another quarterback in at some point, whether that’s through the draft, whether that’s through free agency to compete, and we expect all three of those guys to compete and elevate the room. We’re going to mix and match and see what’s the best fit.”

With the increasing importance of having a capable backup quarterback in today’s NFL, especially given the frequent injuries at the position in recent years, the Titans recognize the need for depth.

Willis has yet to prove himself as that reliable backup during his initial NFL years, and his spot on the team for 2024 is uncertain. However, Tennessee might still retain him as a third emergency quarterback if he fails to secure the backup role.

Although Carthon mentioned both the draft and free agency as potential avenues for acquiring another quarterback, it’s likely that Tennessee will opt for free agency as the solution.
