Former Alabama high school standout falling behind schedule with Miami Marlins.
Former standout from Florence High School, Braxton Garrett, is unlikely to be prepared to join the Miami Marlins’ rotation as they kick off their 2024 season with a four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on March 28.
According to Miami manager Skip Schumaker’s statement on Tuesday, it seems improbable for Garrett to make the Opening Day roster due to his delayed progress. Schumaker emphasized the challenges posed by Garrett’s current situation, citing the absence of live batting practice and the need for additional sessions before considering him for a Major League roster spot.
Schumaker expressed caution, stating, “I’m not going to push somebody who has a little bit of a shoulder thing going on.” He highlighted that Garrett had dealt with a shoulder issue a few weeks prior, but reassured that the player feels great now. The manager emphasized the importance of avoiding undue pressure on Garrett, particularly when recovering from a lingering injury.
