Edward Cabrera, the Miami Marlins pitcher, was pulled out before the start of a spring game due to a shoulder issue.

Miami Marlins right-handed pitcher Edward Cabrera was sidelined from his scheduled appearance in a spring training match against the St. Louis Cardinals due to tightness in his right shoulder even before his first pitch.

The Marlins opted for caution in removing him from the game. Cabrera began his warm-up routine with catcher Christian Bethancourt before the team’s manager Skip Schumaker, pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr., and athletic trainer Rick Lembo, along with infield players, gathered around him on the mound. Following a brief discussion, Cabrera exited the field accompanied by Lembo.

Bethancourt noted Cabrera’s discomfort, expressing that while he attempted to proceed with the outing, it wasn’t advisable.

According to Cabrera, the group advised against risking further injury, emphasizing the early stage of the season.

Manager Skip Schumaker echoed this sentiment, stating that risking Cabrera’s health during spring training wasn’t worth it.

Cabrera underwent extensive stretching in the training room and reported feeling improvement a couple of hours after his removal from the game, expressing hope for a swift return.

Although Cabrera has experienced prior injuries, he clarified that his current shoulder issue is unrelated to previous seasons.

Depending on the severity of the injury, it could complicate the Marlins’ pitching rotation, especially with Sandy Alcantara and Braxton Garrett already sidelined.

As the team evaluates its options, pitchers such as Jesus Luzardo, Eury Perez, A.J. Puk, Ryan Weathers, and Trevor Rogers are among those vying for rotation spots.

Additionally, the Marlins are considering converting some relievers, like George Soriano and Bryan Hoeing, into starters to address potential pitching depth issues.

Schumaker acknowledged the team’s pitching depth is being tested, indicating uncertainty surrounding the rotation as the season approaches.
