Philadelphia Eagles are set to ink a one-year deal with ex-Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White, as reported by CBS Sports.
Philadelphia Eagles, according to CBS Sports, are set to sign Devin White, a former linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to a one-year deal. NFL Network reveals that the contract is valued at $7.5 million.
At 26 years old, White addresses a pressing need for the Eagles’ defense as a linebacker. Last season, he showcased his skills with the Buccaneers, tallying 83 tackles, nine quarterback hits, and five tackles for loss in 14 games. Additionally, he contributed with six pass deflections and two interceptions. White, who clinched the Super Bowl victory with the Buccaneers in the 2021 season, earned Second Team All-Pro honors in 2020 and secured a spot in the Pro Bowl during the 2021 season.
The Eagles faced White and the Buccaneers twice last season, including a playoff loss in the wild card round. In their Week 3 encounter, a 25-11 victory for Philadelphia, White recorded seven tackles, one pass deflection, and one interception.
Selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft from Louisiana State University, White faced some challenges towards the end of the previous season, including being benched and dealing with a lingering foot injury.
The Eagles were in need of a linebacker this offseason following the departures of Nicholas Morrow, Zach Cunningham, and Shaq Leonard in free agency. White will join Nakobe Dean, a former University of Georgia standout, in the Eagles’ linebacker unit.
Earlier in free agency, the Eagles also signed Zack Baun, a former linebacker from the New Orleans Saints, to a one-year deal, with his primary role expected to be on special teams.
In addition to these moves, the Eagles have been active in free agency, securing talents like Saquon Barkley, Bryce Huff, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, among others.
