The Cincinnati Bengals are sending running back Joe Mixon to the Houston Texans via trade.

The Cincinnati Bengals have altered their course regarding Joe Mixon’s departure, opting for a different approach.

Initially intending to release Mixon on Monday, the Bengals have changed tactics. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, they will instead trade him to the Houston Texans, as reported by sources familiar with the deal.

The specific details of the trade have not yet been disclosed.

After reaching an agreement with free-agent running back Zack Moss on Monday, Cincinnati had initially planned to part ways with Mixon, who had previously taken a salary cut during the last offseason to continue with the Bengals. It appeared inevitable that the two sides would go their separate ways this year. By trading Mixon, who carried a salary cap figure of $8.85 million, the Bengals will save $6.1 million on the cap, with $2.75 million designated as dead money.
