Is this a perfect deal?: He’s coming Back

Charlie Taylor is uncertain about his future with Burnley after receiving interest from Leeds United.

The 30-year-old has been somewhat of a regular presence for Vincent Kompany’s team during the 2023-24 season, featuring in 21 matches in the top flight and contributing two goals.

Taylor made the move to the Lancashire club from Leeds United in the summer of 2017 and has since played in 213 games across various competitions, scoring only once.

As mentioned earlier, his lone goal for Burnley came this season, as he scored the opening goal in a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth on October 28.

In an interview with Burnley Express during the recent international break, Taylor chose not to divulge much about his future at Turf Moor beyond the current season, stating that he hasn’t dwelled on the matter much.

When asked about his contract situation, Taylor responded, “No, not from my perspective. I wasn’t getting many opportunities at the start of the season, so I’m just happy to have consistent playing time now.”

He added, “I’m not really looking beyond the summer; I’m just focused on playing regularly. I’m enjoying my football and doing everything I can to help the team climb the table and avoid relegation.”

Initially overlooked for the left-back position at Burnley this season, Taylor often saw Vitinho, a natural right-back, filling in on the left side. However, the 30-year-old has since reclaimed his spot in Vincent Kompany’s lineup, though he acknowledges the difficulty in guiding his team to safety.

Despite Nottingham Forest’s four-point deduction earlier in the month, Burnley still find themselves in 19th place in the Premier League standings, trailing 17th-placed Luton Town by five points.

With Taylor’s contract set to expire in the summer, the Yorkshire Post reports that there are expected to be numerous potential suitors for the defender.

It is believed that one of these potential suitors could be Leeds United, a Championship side aiming for an immediate return to the Premier League under the management of Daniel Farke.

Leeds were reportedly interested in signing Taylor during the summer of 2023, but a move from Lancashire to Yorkshire never materialized for the player.

Having gone unbeaten in the Championship in the first three months of 2024, Leeds have surged to the top of the second-tier table, leading Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town by one point in third place.
