The New York Giants have conducted extensive research on Michael Penix Jr., considering him as one of their potential quarterback options in the draft. Penix Jr., originally from Cookeville, Tennessee, and later relocated to Dade City, Florida, emerged as a standout talent during his high school days at Tampa Bay Tech High School. He garnered recognition as the Hillsborough Country Player of the Year as a senior, boasting impressive stats with 61 touchdowns and minimal interceptions.

His collegiate journey began at Indiana University, where he showcased his skills from 2018 to 2021 before transferring to Washington for his final two seasons. Despite facing multiple setbacks due to injuries, including torn ACLs and a clavicle fracture, Penix Jr. displayed resilience and talent on the field. His tenure at Washington was particularly remarkable, demonstrating his prowess with over 4,500 passing yards in each season, coupled with 67 touchdowns and only 19 interceptions. In 2022, he earned accolades such as the AP Comeback Player of the Year and Second-Team All Pac-12, highlighting his exceptional performance despite the challenges he encountered.
