Emotional Saga: The LSU Women’s Basketball part way with 5 key veteran player

Yet another member of the LSU Women’s Basketball team has joined the transfer portal.

The LSU Women’s Basketball team is in the process of regrouping following their loss in the Elite Eight of this year’s NCAA Tournament, falling short of defending their National Championship title against Iowa in a thrilling rematch of last year’s final.

As Coach Kim Mulkey prepares to reconstruct the team for the upcoming season, the challenges keep mounting. All-American Angel Reese has announced her decision to enter the WNBA Draft, leaving LSU to swiftly find a replacement for their top performer.

Adding to the complexity, guard Hailey Van Lith has opted to enter the transfer portal after just one season with the Tigers. Van Lith played a significant role on the team, making her departure another loss of star talent that requires immediate attention.

However, it’s not only star players that need to be replaced. The team is also facing a loss of depth with the announcement of another LSU player entering the NCAA transfer portal. This time, it’s freshman guard Angelica Velez who will be seeking opportunities elsewhere.

Velez played in 23 games this season, averaging 1.2 points and 0.6 rebounds per game. Although her statistics were not remarkable, she did receive playing time during tournament matches spanning from the SEC Tournament to the NCAA Tournament.

Despite LSU’s two losses to the transfer portal, they have already secured a new addition. Jersey Wolfenbarger from Arkansas will be joining the team. Standing at 6’5″, she is a forward who previously earned recognition as an SEC All-Freshman Team member, McDonald’s All American, and two-time Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year during her high school career.
