Coyotes secure a pair of victories in North Dakota.
In Grand Forks, North Dakota, South Dakota (18-21, 3-4 Summit) secured victories against North Dakota (6-34, 0-5 Summit) in the first day of their two-day series. In the initial game, South Dakota triumphed over North Dakota with a score of 5-3 after a tight contest that extended into extra innings.
Despite both teams remaining scoreless for the first seven innings, the Coyotes and Fighting Hawks each managed to score three runs in the eighth inning. However, South Dakota gained the upper hand in the ninth inning by scoring twice and preventing North Dakota from scoring, clinching the win.
Tatum Villotta contributed three RBIs, while Delaney White added two RBIs during the extra innings, aiding the Coyotes’ victory. Clara Edwards earned her seventh win of the season, striking out four batters in nine innings pitched. In the second game, South Dakota dominated with an 8-0 win over North Dakota.
Kori Wedeking and McKenna Young collaborated for a complete game shutout, with Wedeking delivering nine strikeouts in five innings and Young contributing three strikeouts in one inning.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when the Coyotes surged ahead with a 6-0 lead. Gabby Moser’s home run in the sixth inning extended South Dakota’s lead to 8-0, resulting in an early termination of the game. The Yotes will face North Dakota again tomorrow at 1 p.m. to conclude the three-game series.
