NFL free agency update: The Detroit Lions are parting ways with wide receiver Josh Reynolds, who is set to join the Denver Broncos.

The Detroit Lions are facing the challenge of replenishing their wide receiver corps after losing one of their key players in free agency this week. Josh Reynolds, a significant contributor, is reported to have signed a two-year contract potentially worth up to $14 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. However, specific details of the deal are yet to be revealed.

During the NFL owners meetings, both coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes expressed interest in retaining Reynolds for the upcoming 2024 season. Despite missing out on other targets in free agency, Holmes emphasized that Reynolds was part of their original plans and discussions are ongoing regarding his potential return.

Despite Reynolds’ departure, the Lions are relatively confident in their wide receiver lineup. Amon-Ra St. Brown is set to return and is in line for a contract extension, while Jameson Williams is expected to step into a more prominent role. Additionally, Donovan Peoples-Jones, who was recently re-signed, is anticipated to have a greater impact after fully grasping the offensive playbook during the offseason.

Nevertheless, the Lions possess depth at the position with players like Kalif Raymond, Tom Kennedy, Maurice Alexander, and Antoine Green. Yet, there’s acknowledgment that enhancing the top-tier talent could be beneficial.

Reynolds concludes his stint in Detroit after contributing for 2.5 seasons, accumulating 97 receptions for 1,393 yards and 10 touchdowns.
