Kentucky running back La’Vell Wright has opted to join the transfer portal.
The upcoming spring transfer portal window isn’t set to open until next week, but player movements have already begun trickling in this week. Kentucky experienced its first departure from the post-spring roster on Wednesday, leaving new offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan with only five scholarship players at the tailback position.
La’Vell Wright, who graduated from the University of Kentucky, has entered the transfer portal. A member of the class of 2021, Wright spent three seasons with the program and is poised to be a redshirt junior in 2024 with two years of eligibility remaining.
During his redshirt freshman year in 2022 under offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello, Wright participated in all 13 games, tallying 39 carries for 120 yards and six receptions for 28 yards. However, an injury sidelined him for the entire 2023 season after he took a redshirt in 2021.
Hailing from Radcliff (Ky.) North Hardin, Wright was a three-star prospect who amassed impressive stats of 4,019 rushing yards and 53 touchdowns over his final three years of high school football. He ultimately chose Kentucky over offers from Maryland, Northwestern, and West Virginia.
The spring transfer portal window for undergraduate transfers will officially open on Tuesday, April 16th.
