‘Incredible Achievement’: Salvador Perez Enters Exclusive Group with 250th Career Home Run

Salvador Perez has left an indelible mark on the history of the Kansas City Royals. As the team’s captain, he has witnessed both the triumphs and trials of the organization. Notably, Perez was named the World Series MVP in 2015 and played a pivotal role as a vocal leader during one of the team’s most challenging seasons last year.

On Saturday, Perez added another milestone to his remarkable career with the Royals. By hitting his 250th career home run, he joined an exclusive group of primary catchers, including legendary figures like Johnny Bench, Carlton Fisk, Yogi Berra, Gary Carter, and Mike Piazza, all of whom are Hall of Famers. Interestingly, both Carter and Piazza left their mark with the New York Mets, with Piazza holding the all-time record for home runs by a catcher at 427. Perez achieved this milestone in Queens, New York, the same location where Carter and Piazza played, and where Perez celebrated a World Series victory in 2015.

Reflecting on his achievement, Perez expressed gratitude and excitement, particularly as the home run contributed to a victory for the Royals. He acknowledged personal goals while remaining thankful for the opportunity to continue playing the game he loves.

The milestone home run came in the fourth inning against Mets pitcher Sean Manaea, with Perez driving a fastball towards left-center field. Despite a crew chief review confirming the home run, Perez’s hit was initially challenged. Nonetheless, he rounded the bases as the Royals secured an 11-7 victory.

Perez’s teammates celebrated his achievement, emphasizing his dedication, leadership, and role as a mentor to younger players. Several Royals spoke highly of Perez’s work ethic, preparation, and unwavering support, highlighting his impact both on and off the field.

As the Royals continue their strong start to the season, Perez’s versatility and commitment remain invaluable. Whether catching games, playing first base, or serving as a designated hitter, Perez approaches each role with enthusiasm and a relentless drive to win. As the team aims for success, Perez’s leadership and determination will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in their journey.
