Jordan Montgomery of the Diamondbacks parts ways with Scott Boras following a challenging free agency period.
Following the conclusion of a months-long free agency period, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Jordan Montgomery has opted to change representation. Montgomery, a World Series champion, is switching from super agent Scott Boras to Joel Wolfe & Nick Chanock of the Wasserman group, according to Kiley McDaniel.
Despite his stellar performance for the Texas Rangers during the previous postseason, which led to the team’s first World Series victory, Montgomery’s anticipated multi-year, nine-figure contract did not materialize during free agency. Consequently, he remained unsigned through spring training.
Eventually, on March 26, Montgomery agreed to terms on a one-year deal with a 2025 option, joining the National League champion D-backs.
Montgomery’s situation mirrors that of several other Boras clients who encountered difficulties finding contracts last offseason. Notable players such as Blake Snell, Matt Chapman, and Cody Bellinger, all represented by Boras, remained unsigned until after spring training had commenced.
Traditionally adept at securing substantial, long-term contracts for his clients, Boras faced challenges in the previous offseason, leading to Montgomery’s decision to seek new representation. McDaniel had initially projected Montgomery to sign a five-year deal worth $106 million, but ultimately, he settled for a one-year contract valued at $25 million.
