huge setback: Sunia Turuva is flourishing within the Penrith Panthers environment.

The Penrith Panthers face the prospect of losing another key player, Sunia Turuva, to the Wests Tigers at the end of the season. Turuva seems close to finalizing his decision, with reports indicating that Penrith can’t match the competitive offers he’s receiving elsewhere.

Despite upcoming departures like James Fisher-Harris and Jahrome Luai, which would increase their salary cap space, Penrith can’t improve their offer of $350,000 per year for Turuva. The Sydney Morning Herald notes that the Tigers are offering him a multi-year deal worth $450,000 annually, potentially partnering him with Luai next season.

Turuva’s ties to the Tigers, including family connections like cousin and team captain Api Koroisau, seem to be influencing his decision. The St. George Illawarra Dragons have also shown interest, proposing a deal ranging from $400,000 to $600,000 per season, with potential position-based bonuses.

Penrith officials recently met with Turuva’s representatives to discuss his future, but a decision is expected soon. Despite Penrith’s reluctance to exceed $350,000, citing the depth of talent in their junior ranks, Turuva’s departure seems increasingly likely.
