5-Star Karter Knox Chooses Arkansas After Changing Mind from Kentucky Due to John Calipari’s Move
John Calipari‘s move from Kentucky to Arkansas has drawn attention, but it’s not just him making the switch.
Class of 2024 recruit Karter Knox opted to join Calipari at Arkansas after initially decommitting from Kentucky, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.
Expressing confidence in Calipari’s ability to develop him as a pro, Knox emphasized his excitement to work with both Calipari and Coach Kenny Payne. As a 5-star prospect ranked 22nd overall in the class of 2024 by 247Sports’ composite rankings, Knox brings considerable talent to Fayetteville.
Knox’s tie to Calipari runs deep, with his older brother Kevin Knox having played for Calipari at Kentucky before entering the NBA as the ninth overall pick in 2018. Now, Arkansas’s new coach aims to replicate that success with the younger Knox.
Knox’s decision adds to a string of departures from Kentucky’s once-promising recruiting class, with several other prospects potentially following suit to Arkansas. The Razorbacks have ample roster spots available after all 13 scholarship players from the 2023-24 season either moved to the NBA draft, entered the transfer portal, or exhausted their eligibility.
Despite the turnover, Calipari’s reputation as a top recruiter suggests Arkansas could assemble a formidable team in his first season. Securing talents like Knox, known for his scoring prowess and versatility on offense, lays a strong foundation as Calipari aims to establish another SEC powerhouse after his high-profile move from Kentucky.
