Using history as his guide, Kevin Durant climbs to the top ten in NBA scoring.

Prolific Phoenix forward Kevin Durant became the 10th highest scoring player in league history on Friday, surpassing Moses Malone, marking another milestone on his path to the NBA Hall of Fame.

With 50.1 seconds left in the first half of the Nuggets’ 119-111 loss to the Denver Nuggets, Durant made a driving layup after forcing his way past Denver guard Reggie Jackson along the right baseline. The play was so well-publicized prior to the game that Durant knew exactly which of his 30 points would decide the game.

The 35-year-old Durant also knows just who he passed on Friday, just like he did when he outran Elvin Hayes to take 11th place in the scoring standings during the regular season this year.

For a while, Durant stated, “I have always appreciated Moses as somebody who does not get the credit he deserves as being a dominant, dominant player in this league.”

“A victor. He was the league’s best player at one point, but he does not have the same hype or narrative surrounding him as a player despite having played in this league for more than ten years. I am thankful we are having this conversation together. The experience has been incredible.
