The Kitchener Rangers will welcome Jussi Ahokas as their new head coach.

Months after making hints that they would bring in a new head coach for the upcoming season, the OHL franchise finally made the announcement on Monday.(tab opens in a new one)

Ahokas, a native of Finland, has led the Finnish Elite League (Liiga), the country’s top men’s professional hockey league, for the past four seasons.

“I am incredibly thrilled and grateful,” Ahokas stated in a press statement.(opens in a new tab) “In Finland, we are aware of the objectives and nature of the Kitchener Rangers as an organization. I consider myself fortunate to have this chance to coach in Canada, particularly in Kitchener. I am eager for the season to begin and am looking forward to working with the Rangers’ hockey and business departments in the future.

As the head coach of Team Finland in international competitions, Ahokas has won two notable gold medals.
