He want to Return: Tyler Baron, who leaves’ Vols in December is planning to return back after…

Tyler Baron, a former defensive lineman for the Tennessee Vols, appears to have discovered a potential workaround within the transfer portal system.

Tyler Baron, a former defensive lineman for the Tennessee Vols, entered the NCAA transfer portal for the second time this offseason. Initially committing to Ole Miss after his first portal entry in December, Baron’s stint in Oxford was short-lived as he later transferred to Louisville, where he participated in spring practice with the Cardinals.

His decision to re-enter the transfer portal after leaving the SEC raises an intriguing scenario. Typically, SEC players who enter the transfer portal during the spring window in April are not eligible to transfer to another SEC program. However, Baron’s situation is unique as he finished the 2023 season as an SEC player before transferring to an SEC school in December and then enrolling at an ACC school.

The question arises: is Baron eligible to transfer to an SEC school this time around? According to insights from 247Sports’ Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz, Baron’s enrollment at Louisville for spring practice potentially opens the door for him to transfer to any SEC program, unlike if he had stayed at Ole Miss through spring practice.

Rumors suggest possible connections between Baron and Ole Miss, as well as Miami, after his re-entry into the transfer portal. LSU, in need of a transfer defensive lineman, also emerges as a potential destination, thanks to the transfer portal loophole that Baron may have uncovered, albeit inadvertently.
