Mark Few of Gonzaga awarded Naismith Trophy and NABC Coach of the Year

On April 2nd in Indianapolis, Mark Few of Gonzaga, who has steered the Zags to an undefeated 30-0 record and into the Final Four, received dual recognition as Coach of the Year.

Few was honored with the Coach of the Year titles by both the Naismith Trophy and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Few holds the highest winning percentage (83.5%) among all Division I coaches, amassing a remarkable 629-124 record over 22 seasons.

Under Few’s leadership, Gonzaga has secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament every season. Despite winning the WCC Tournament last season, the team’s NCAA Tournament journey was abruptly halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This marks Gonzaga’s second appearance in the Final Four under Few. The 2017 squad concluded with a 37-2 record, falling to North Carolina in the championship game. Few previously claimed the Naismith coaching award in 2017.

In the AP Coach of the Year race, Few trailed behind Michigan’s Juwan Howard, with Howard receiving 35 first-place votes compared to Few’s 16.

Among other notable NABC awards recipients were Iowa’s Luka Garza, named Player of the Year and Big Man of the Year; Baylor’s Davion Mitchell, recognized as Defensive Player of the Year; and Cade Cunningham, honored as Freshman of the Year.
