Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays accepts responsibility for the game-changing mistake.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the first baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays, had no justification for his crucial and premature error during Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium.

“What am I supposed to say? I narrowly missed the ball. Through a club interpreter, Guerrero Jr. said to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson, “Period.”

Isiah Kiner-Falefa, the third baseman for the Jays, fielded a routine ground ball with two outs in the fifth inning before throwing to Guerrero Jr. at first base. Guerrero Jr. mishandled the ball, giving the Royals the opportunity to tie the score and cut the Blue Jays’ lead in half.

After that, Bobby Witt Jr. hit a two-run double down the line to give the Royals a lead they would never let up, 3-2.

Matt Quatraro, manager of the Royals, told the media, “That is a crazy play.” After Kiner-Falefa made an excellent play to get the ball, Vladdy dropped it. You will not be able to rely on that frequently.”

Before the error, Kevin Gausman, the starting pitcher for the Blue Jays, was poised to record his first victory of the year. After pitching 6.2 innings, he gave up three unearned runs and seven hits.

Gausman stated, “At this point, there is nothing more I can do about it.” “I still want Vladdy to be my first baseman even though it stinks.” It stinks since I have a lot of faith in his abilities there. Sadly, that is the nature of the game. We are playing excellent baseball, and it is really bad that this game took on such significance.

Guerrero Jr., a 25-year-old, had a terrible night at the plate, going hitless in five at-bats and striking out twice.
