ITS a done deal: Aonther mega star player Committed to the Denver Broncos just…

On Saturday, Gang Green traded John Franklin-Myers to the Broncos in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. This move occurred shortly after the Jets traded quarterback Zach Wilson to the Broncos.

Franklin-Myers, aged 27, had been part of the Jets since 2019 when he was claimed off waivers from the Rams. Over the past four seasons, he started in 52 games.

The decision to trade Franklin-Myers was primarily financial for the Jets. His base salary for 2024 was slated at $13.3 million, with a corresponding salary cap hit of $16.4 million. By trading him, the Jets freed up $7.3 million in cap space and avoided paying his salary for the season. However, they incur a dead money charge of $9 million.

Following the acquisition of Haason Reddick and his $15 million salary cap hit, the Jets felt compelled to part ways with Franklin-Myers.

Permission for Franklin-Myers and his agent to pursue a trade was granted several weeks ago, and it materialized on Saturday.

General Manager Douglas acknowledged the difficulty of this decision, noting, “When we made the trade for Haason, we knew it was going to be next to impossible to keep JFM at his salary.”

According to ESPN, Franklin-Myers agreed to a new contract with the Broncos, spanning two years and valued at $15 million, with $10 million guaranteed. Douglas stated that the disparity in negotiations made it impractical for the Jets to renegotiate his contract.
