The Gonzaga Bulldogs have revealed that Michael Ajayi, who transferred from Pepperdine, will be joining their men’s basketball team for the 2024-25 season. Mark Few expressed his enthusiasm for the addition, praising Ajayi’s work ethic and character, which he believes will complement the team well.
Hailing from Kent, Washington, Ajayi topped the scoring charts in the West Coast Conference last season, averaging 17.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. He showcased impressive shooting percentages, hitting 46.7% from the field and 47% from three-point range, earning himself a spot on the All-WCC first team. Standing at 6-foot-7, he had notable performances, scoring over 20 points in 11 games and surpassing 30 points twice.
Ajayi’s decision to transfer to Gonzaga was followed by his entry into the 2024 NBA Draft, though indications suggest he’ll withdraw his name before the May 29 deadline to maintain his college eligibility.
With the likelihood of Ajayi joining the team, Gonzaga stands to benefit from one of the conference’s top scorers, bolstering an already strong roster. With minimal changes expected to the lineup, apart from Anton Watson’s departure, the team is poised for success in the upcoming season, with many experts considering them a top-10 contender.
Ajayi’s basketball journey includes impressive stints at Pierce Community College, where he was recognized as the 2022 Northwest Athletic Conference West Region’s Most Valuable Player and Freshman of the Year. Prior to that, he showcased his talents at Kentwood High School, averaging double digits in points and rebounds during his varsity season.
