Preview: Coventry City versus Queens Park Rangers – forecast, squad updates, expected lineups

Seeking to rectify their dismal performance at the tail end of this season, Coventry City will host Queens Park Rangers at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday in the Championship.

Coventry, emotionally drained from a challenging series of fixtures, are struggling to maintain momentum, while Queens Park Rangers will likely be in high spirits after securing their safety in the second tier last week.

Over their last five Championship matches, Coventry has only managed to gather one point, effectively ending their hopes of securing consecutive playoff finishes ahead of the final weekend. Their recent match at the CBS Arena against Ipswich Town saw the visitors dominate, with goals from Kieffer Moore and Cameron Burgess securing a victory for Ipswich.

Despite the defeat, there was a bright spot for Coventry thanks to Haji Wright’s goal-scoring prowess, with the USA international netting his 16th goal of the Championship season. However, defensive weaknesses have plagued Coventry this season, resulting in just 12 clean sheets compared to 22 in the previous campaign.

Saturday’s match is likely to be Callum O’Hare’s final appearance for Coventry, as the playmaker has yet to sign a new deal with the club. Meanwhile, under Marti Cifuentes, Queens Park Rangers have undergone a remarkable turnaround, going from relegation candidates to securing their place in the Championship for the next season. Heading into the final weekend, QPR sits comfortably in 17th place, six points clear of relegation.

Ilias Chair has been a standout performer for QPR this season, leading the team in both goals and assists. QPR will aim to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat against Coventry, with their last victory against the Sky Blues dating back to January 2022.
