Sherrone Moore achieved another milestone in steering the Michigan football program on Wednesday: securing a skill position player through the transfer portal.

C.J. Charleston, a receiver from Youngstown State, revealed on X, previously known as Twitter, his commitment to the Wolverines for the forthcoming 2024 season.

Charleston, a 6-foot wide receiver originating from Gates Mill, Ohio, joins the Wolverines after an impressive 2023 college football season at Youngstown State, where he stood out as the No. 3 wide receiver. Notably, he achieved personal bests in receiving yards (503), receptions (33), and receiving touchdowns (four). Moore made the offer to Charleston, who accepted it on Monday.

Josh Henschke of Michigan Rivals noted Charleston’s previous tie to the Michigan program through Wolverines offensive analyst Josh Sinagoga, who served as his wide receivers coach at Youngstown State from 2020 to 2021. During this period, Charleston accumulated 23 receptions for 259 receiving yards over two seasons.

Bringing two years of eligibility to Michigan, Charleston’s transfer bolsters the Wolverines’ receiving unit. Despite missing the entire 2022 season due to a torn Achilles injury, he retains his extra year of eligibility from the NCAA’s COVID-19 ruling.
