Braves acquire little-known reliever from Angels in trade.

The Braves’ pitching staff has been exceptional lately, but top-notch general managers always seek to strengthen their team throughout the season. With three of their All-Stars already sidelined for significant periods this year, the Braves understand the importance of depth and flexibility.

According to the team’s official announcement, the Braves have traded for Jimmy Herget from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for cash considerations. Herget has been assigned to AAA Gwinnett.

Herget had a disappointing 2023 season with the Angels, recording a 4.66 ERA in 29 appearances. He failed to secure a spot on this year’s Opening Day roster and was recently designated for assignment.

While this trade may appear minor, Herget’s performance in 2022 showcased his potential, with a 2.48 ERA, 2.82 FIP, and 0.913 WHIP over 49 appearances for the Angels. The Angels have struggled to maximize their pitchers’ abilities, whereas the Braves have a strong track record in this regard. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if Herget thrives in Atlanta and recaptures his 2022 form if called upon.
