Montreal Canadiens Sign Defenseman Adam Engstrom
On Friday, the Montreal Canadiens announced the signature of Adam Engstrom to a three-year entry level contract starting the 2024-25 season.
The defenceman was drafted by the organization 92nd overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft and spent the last two seasons with Rogle BK Angelholm in the Swedish Hockey League. With that club, he’s collected 38 points in 94 regular season games and nine points in 24 playoff games over two years.
“He’s a 6’2″ left-handed defenseman. He skates really, really well,” co-director of amateur scouting Nick Bobrov commented following the selection. “We like the development curve, we like the situation he’s in, we like where he’s thought of in Rögle. He was an interesting player. We needed to find some size with sense and skating.”
“I need to develop my physical game a little bit more and I also want to be more effective offensively, but I need to put on the defensive side,” Engstrom stated his objective for the season during the Canadiens development camp on July 3rd, 2023.
In 2023, the 20-year old represented his country at the IIHF World Junior Championship, where he obtained three points in seven games and plus-6.
The 6-foot-2, 193 pound left-shooting defenceman joins the already deep pipeline at the blue line of the Canadiens organization. Since Engstrom does not hold a contract in Sweden, the club can assign him to the Laval Rocket to begin his adjustment to North American hockey.
