Breaking News: He’s back again full

Leeds-born Aaron Lennon has returned to his hometown club almost two decades after leaving for Tottenham Hotspur. Now 37 years old and retired from playing, the former England winger was spotted at Etihad Stadium working with Leeds United’s under-18 team on Friday evening.

As the coaching staff geared up for the FA Youth Cup final warm-up, Lennon, dressed in United attire, collaborated with head coach Rob Etherington for the session. Despite no official confirmation of Lennon’s role, his wealth of experience in professional football undoubtedly benefits the young players, reminiscent of Stewart Downing’s involvement at Thorp Arch.

Lennon emerged as one of Thorp Arch’s success stories at the turn of the century. He debuted for Leeds at 16 during the season the club faced relegation from the Premier League in 2003/04, later playing a more significant role under Kevin Blackwell in the Championship.

Following the trend of many talented players from that era, Lennon was eventually transferred after only 38 league appearances for Leeds. Tottenham brought him back to the top flight, where he featured regularly for nine years and earned 21 caps for England. Loan spells at Everton and a subsequent move to Burnley followed, with Lennon concluding his playing career in the 2021/22 season.

The duration of Lennon’s stay at Thorp Arch and the nature of his coaching transition remain uncertain.
