During the WCC conference tournament in Las Vegas back in March, West Coast Conference commissioner Stu Jackson had emphasized the league’s proactive stance towards conference expansion. On Friday, Jackson followed through on this promise as it was officially announced that Seattle U and Grand Canyon would join the WCC as its 10th and 11th full-time members, respectively. Effective July 2025, both institutions will participate in 14 WCC-sponsored sports, including men’s and women’s basketball.
Gonzaga, which expressed strong support for the WCC’s decision to include Seattle U and GCU, will now face formidable opponents. Grand Canyon, having made appearances in the NCAA Tournament three times in the past four seasons, presents a challenging adversary. Additionally, Seattle U, experiencing a surge in performance with three consecutive seasons of 20 or more wins, adds another competitive edge.
Gonzaga Nation’s Dan Dickau commended the decision made by Stu Jackson, expressing enthusiasm for the inclusion of Seattle U and Grand Canyon. He highlighted the significance of adding these two reputable basketball programs to the WCC during a recent episode of Gonzaga Nation.
