NBA REVIEW: Bam Adebayo’s extensions contract is terminated and he is leaving to….

The Miami Heat have been extensively discussing contract extensions, with much attention on star player Jimmy Butler. However, another key player, Bam Adebayo, is also eligible for an extension this summer. According to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald, there’s a strong indication that Adebayo will receive a substantial extension from the Heat, securing his position as a cornerstone for the team’s future.

Adebayo’s contract situation is unique. While he was a finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year award, which would have made him eligible for a supermax contract, the award ultimately went to Rudy Gobert. The other route to a supermax contract is by making an All-NBA team, but this outcome is uncertain due to the league’s talent pool. Regardless, Adebayo remains in line for a significant extension, potentially a three-year, $165 million deal starting in the 2026-27 season.

Adebayo’s value to the Heat extends beyond statistics. He’s widely regarded as one of the league’s premier defenders, with the versatility to guard any position. Additionally, his offensive game continues to evolve, with improvements in post play, mid-range shooting, and even three-point shooting.

Heat president Pat Riley has been impressed by Adebayo’s development, likening it to Magic Johnson’s transformation during Riley’s tenure with the Lakers. Riley emphasized the importance of Adebayo expanding his game, much like Johnson did by incorporating three-point shooting and other skills. Despite the need for growth, Adebayo is already recognized as an elite player, and the Heat are eager to continue building around him.
