New record Line: Five Missouri softball players receive All-SEC recognition.

Five Mizzou softball players were honored with All-SEC accolades on Friday afternoon. Shortstop Jenna Laird, centerfielder Alex Honnold, and first baseman Abby Hay were named Second-Team All-SEC, while pitcher Laurin Krings and right fielder Kayley Lenger earned spots on the SEC All-Defensive team.

This marks the most All-SEC selections for the program since 2021.

Laird, a veteran of conference honors, secured her third consecutive All-SEC Second Team recognition. Throughout her four years at Mizzou, she has accumulated a total of seven conference postseason honors. Laird boasted a .282 batting average during the SEC season, registering 22 hits, 14 runs, eight RBI, four doubles, and five stolen bases. Leading her team with 20 multi-hit games, she also maintained a 17-game reached base streak. Additionally, Laird ranked in the top-10 in the SEC for various categories such as runs, hits, stolen bases, plate appearances, and at-bats. During the SEC Tournament Quarterfinal on Friday, she set a record for consecutive games played in a Mizzou uniform, starting in 237 consecutive games.

Honnold secured her second consecutive All-SEC selection, batting .288 with 21 hits, 13 runs, 11 RBI, five doubles, and two home runs during the regular season conference play. Ranking 11th in the conference with a .358 batting average, she set a Mizzou single-season record for doubles with 21. She was also recognized for her defensive prowess, posting a .976 fielding percentage in center field.

Abby Hay, a Columbia-native, earned her first conference honors of her young career. During the 2024 season, she led her team in conference play with a .318 batting average, 14 hits, nine RBI, six runs, and three home runs, along with a slugging percentage of .591. Hay received national attention by securing an SEC Player of the Week honor on April 23. In her debut college season, she boasts a .328 batting average and has started in each of the last 20 games. Defensively, she has maintained a .986 fielding percentage in 2024.

Krings received her second postseason SEC honor, previously named to the 2022 SEC All-Tournament Team. She recorded eight complete games in 2024 out of over 30 appearances. Krings showcased her pitching prowess with a complete game shutout in the win over Mississippi State on April 27, striking out five batters. She has amassed 13 wins in the circle during the 2024 season, standing as the sole pitcher on Mizzou’s staff with over 100 strikeouts and 100 innings pitched.

Finally, Lenger secured her first-ever SEC honors, maintaining a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000 during SEC play, with 45 putouts and zero errors. Additionally, she contributed offensively with 29 runs, 28 hits, five doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBI.

These five All-SEC selections will compete with their Tiger team in the SEC Tournament Championship against Florida on Saturday, May 11, with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
