Angel Reese Addresses Criticism Following Attendance at Met Gala Ahead of Game

Angel Reese has addressed the online criticism she faced for attending the Met Gala the day before her preseason game against the New York Liberty.

Reese celebrated her 22nd birthday at the Met Gala in New York on Monday before returning to Chicago for the preseason game on Tuesday. Despite concerns about her focus, Reese performed well, scoring 13 points and grabbing five rebounds in 19 minutes as the Sky defeated the Liberty 101-53.

During a recent press conference, Reese acknowledged the criticism she received and defended her decision to attend the Met Gala. She explained that she had obtained permission from head coach Teresa Weatherspoon before making the trip and remained focused on her preparations for the game.

Despite enjoying the Met Gala experience, Reese emphasized her dedication to her basketball career and her commitment to being prepared for the game. She mentioned studying film on the plane and prioritizing her responsibilities, including balancing basketball, academics, and social engagements.

In response to the comments she received on social media, Reese addressed her 475,000 followers with a post after the preseason game.

Weatherspoon expressed no worries about the trip affecting Reese’s performance, affirming that Reese had earned the privilege to attend.

“I had confidence in Angel Reese,” Weatherspoon remarked. “Angel consistently demonstrates responsible behavior, so I trusted her judgment in prioritizing her commitments.”
