The Charlotte Hornets appoint Lamar Skeeter, previously an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz, to serve as their lead assistant coach.
The Charlotte Hornets have reportedly enlisted Lamar Skeeter, a Utah Jazz assistant coach, to serve as the primary assistant under new head coach Charles Lee. Skeeter, who has spent a decade with the Jazz, initially joining as a development coach under Will Hardy and Quin Snyder, has gradually risen to the role of lead assistant.
NBA coaching positions often see frequent changes, and Skeeter’s move marks the first departure of a Jazz assistant this offseason. Having been with the Jazz since the 2014-15 season, initially hired by Quin Snyder, Skeeter is among the longest-tenured coaches on the team.
This opportunity with the Hornets represents a significant step for Skeeter, providing him the chance to assume a top assistant role. Despite his lengthy tenure with the Jazz, the opportunity to advance in the coaching hierarchy likely fueled Skeeter’s decision to make this move. It remains to be seen whether the Jazz will promote from within or seek an external replacement for Skeeter. Given the upcoming NBA Draft and the importance of player development for the Jazz, a focus on nurturing young talent could be a priority in their coaching search.
