“Major Trade Deal” Sends Damian Lillard from the Bucks to the Cavaliers
Fran Leiva from Fadeaway World suggested a trade scenario involving the Cavaliers and Bucks:
In exchange for Damian Lillard, the proposal includes Darius Garland, Caris LeVert, and a first-round pick in 2031. Lillard, who posted impressive stats for the Bucks this season, is set to earn $48.8 million next season.
Leiva highlighted the potential benefits for Cleveland, noting that acquiring Lillard could enhance their playoff prospects and possibly influence Donovan Mitchell’s decision to stay with the team by pairing him with another elite scorer. This trade, Leiva argues, addresses the needs of both teams: Milwaukee could rejuvenate its roster with younger talent while managing salary cap considerations, while Cleveland could strengthen its lineup to better compete in the Eastern Conference.
The Bucks suffered a first-round playoff defeat to the Indiana Pacers in six games, with Lillard averaging 31.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in four appearances.
Lillard, widely regarded as one of the premier scorers and shooters in NBA history, boasts career averages of 25.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.7 assists. He has earned eight All-Star selections and seven All-NBA nods throughout his career with the Trail Blazers and Bucks.
If the Cavaliers were to acquire Lillard, it could potentially prompt Mitchell to sign a contract extension this offseason. Mitchell has the option to sign a four-year extension worth around $200 million, with a player option for the 2025-26 season valued at $37 million.
However, NBA insider Marc Stein suggests that if an extension agreement isn’t reached, there’s a growing belief that the Cavaliers may need to trade Mitchell. During the 2023-24 regular season, Mitchell averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists while shooting efficiently from the field, three-point range, and the free-throw line.
