The Miami Marlins have secured shortstop Tristan Gray’s contract from Triple-A Jacksonville and sent right-hander George Soriano down to make room. In a corresponding move, they’ve transferred right-hander J.T. Chargois to the 60-day injured list due to a neck injury.
Gray, aged 28, only had a brief stint in the majors last season with the Tampa Bay Rays. He returns to the big leagues after joining the Marlins on a minor league deal in the offseason and earning his call-up by hitting 10 home runs with 23 RBIs in Jacksonville.
Soriano, aged 25, struggled with a 0-1 record and a 9.26 ERA across 10 relief appearances for Miami this season.
Chargois, aged 33, hasn’t seen action for the Marlins this season due to neck spasms since February. Over six MLB seasons spanning five different teams, he holds a 13-6 record with a 3.55 ERA in 208 appearances, including eight starts.
