“Mark Few Responds to Son Joe’s First Collegiate Basket: A Father’s Pride and a Coach’s Reaction at Gonzaga”
In San Diego, California last Thursday night, Gonzaga secured a victory over Pepperdine with a score of 86-61, marking Head Coach Mark Few’s 700th career win. However, on Saturday, in Gonzaga’s 105-63 triumph over San Diego, another significant moment unfolded for the Few family as Joe Few made his first-ever collegiate basket.
With just over two minutes left in the game, Joe drove towards the basket from beyond the three-point line, halting just before the elbow and sinking a 10-foot floater with his right hand.
Reflecting on the moment post-game, Mark expressed his joy as a father witnessing the basket but admitted some reservation as a coach. “It was the right basketball play. They were up into him, he did a good job driving and he likes that little runner, not sure I like the 10-foot runner, but he likes to shoot that,” Mark Few remarked with a slight grin.
Joe joined the Zags for the 2021-22 season as a freshman but was sidelined for the entirety of last season due to injury. While he had scored points in previous games this season and during his freshman year, they were all from free throws.
Gonzaga is set to return to action this Thursday, hosting San Francisco at 6 p.m.
