The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up to host the Baltimore Ravens in the opening game of the 2024 NFL season, promising to be an electrifying event.
According to Marca, Patrick Mahomes’ squad is aiming for a third consecutive Super Bowl victory, with their first challenge being the Ravens, led by Lamar Jackson.
The announcement, made on Monday, confirms that the game is scheduled for September 5 (Thursday). This matchup marks a rematch of the previous season’s AFC Championship Game, which saw the Chiefs secure a 17-10 victory.
The NFL tradition of kicking off the season with a special game dates back to 2002. The Kansas City Chiefs have a solid track record in these openers, winning two out of three. Despite a narrow loss last year against the Detroit Lions by just one point, they proved that a Kickoff defeat doesn’t necessarily indicate a disastrous season ahead.
On the contrary, the Ravens have only played one opening game, resulting in a defeat at the hands of the Denver Broncos in the 2013 season.
While fans eagerly await the release of the entire schedule for the new season on Wednesday, the showdown between the Chiefs and Ravens is already generating significant anticipation.
Lamar Jackson will face off against Patrick Mahomes, a prospect he has openly admitted he’s not fond of. “I don’t like competing against him at all,” Jackson said of Mahomes in January, as reported by The Athletic. “He’s definitely a great QB. Definitely a Hall of Famer. That’s a no-brainer.”
