The Detroit Lions have hired two new staff members for their front office, one of whom is a highly regarded candidate for the position of general manager.
Following the NFL Draft, it’s typical for teams to reorganize their front office and personnel departments, and the Detroit Lions seem to be following suit. According to Neil Stratton, they’ve brought on board two highly respected individuals, Tom Roth and Dwayne Joseph, to their scouting department, although their specific roles haven’t been clarified yet.
Dwayne Joseph’s reputation stems from his significant contributions during his tenure with the Raiders and previously with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played a pivotal role in their Super Bowl victory. His extensive career, including stints with the Bears and Dolphins, demonstrates his wealth of experience. Despite missing out on the Raiders’ general manager position in 2022, he remains highly sought-after for such roles, with reports suggesting he’s been interviewed by multiple teams, including the Lions.
Similarly, Roth brings over two decades of scouting experience, primarily with the Bills and the Titans. His recent position with the Titans as a college scout underscores his expertise in talent evaluation at the collegiate level.
The addition of such respected and seasoned professionals is a positive move for the Lions, especially considering recent departures from their personnel department. With key figures like Dave Sears and Lance Newmark moving on to prominent roles elsewhere, the Lions’ reinforcement of their front office is crucial for maintaining stability and expertise within the organization.
