Despite the significant buzz Caitlin Clark has generated ahead of the new WNBA season, her performance and that of her Indiana Fever team have been less than stellar, with a 0-2 record in the opening games.
Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, made history by breaking the all-time Division I scoring record (for both men and women) while at the University of Iowa.
Although 2.3 million viewers tuned in for Clark’s WNBA debut between the Fever and the Connecticut Sun, the Sun emerged victorious with a 92-71 win in front of a sellout crowd at Mohegan Sun Arena. Clark scored 20 points in the defeat.
The New York Liberty thwarted Caitlin Clark’s home debut, routing the Indiana Fever 102-66 on Thursday night in Indianapolis.
Under intense scrutiny, Clark managed only nine points in her home debut, adding seven rebounds and six assists, with three turnovers, a notable improvement from the ten she committed in the Fever’s loss to the Connecticut Sun.
A sellout crowd of over 17,000 witnessed the Fever being thoroughly outplayed by the Liberty, with the visitors dominating the final quarter by scoring 35 points to the Fever’s ten.
Despite the Fever’s shaky start, the demand to see Clark and her team remains high, both at home and on the road. The Atlanta Dream is the latest team to adjust for the increased attendance, announcing that their home games against the Fever on June 21 and August 26 will be played at State Farm Arena, home of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.
