Tennessee Baseball Kicks Off Series Against South Carolina
The Tennessee Volunteers will begin their final series of the regular season tonight, facing off against No. 24 South Carolina.
The Vols will compete in a three-game series with South Carolina starting tonight, aiming to secure the SEC regular season title for the fifth time in program history. They are currently just one game behind first-place Kentucky.
Tennessee enters this series after winning their eighth consecutive conference series, defeating Vanderbilt two games to one last weekend. Conversely, South Carolina struggled in their recent home stand against Georgia, getting swept by the Bulldogs and dropping from No. 13 to No. 24 in the national rankings. Despite their recent difficulties, the Gamecocks have notable series wins, including a sweep against Vanderbilt and a series victory over No. 2 Kentucky.
Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello commented on South Carolina’s strengths and the Vols’ preparation strategy: “I know their bullpen has guys with really good stuff. Shocker, in our league. That’s kind of a theme. We will start to pick those guys apart a little bit as far as preparing or at least taking a look at them. And then offensively, there’s just a lot of experience in there, and there’s balance too between left- and right-handed hitters.”
As the Vols pursue their fifth SEC regular season championship in program history, Christian Moore is on the verge of making history himself. Moore is just one home run away from breaking Tennessee’s single-season home run record after hitting his 24th homer in Tuesday’s game against Belmont.
Starting on the mound for Tennessee in game one is left-handed pitcher Chris Stamos, who has a 3-0 record with a 3.33 ERA. South Carolina will counter with Ty Good, who has a 5-1 record and a 3.21 ERA. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm ET.
