so sad to leave: Southampton announces his leaving after the match due to his…..

Southampton earned their spot at Wembley with a 3-1 victory over West Brom in the Championship play-off semi-final second leg.

Following a goalless draw at The Hawthorns on Sunday, Southampton were poised to secure a place in the final on 26th May.

Russell Martin’s team started strongly, keeping a defensively-minded West Brom pinned in their own half.

The Saints finally broke through early in the second half when Will Smallbone scored with a brilliant shot into the near post.

Their lead was extended in the 78th minute when Adam Armstrong netted his 22nd goal of the season, and he scored again from the penalty spot in the 86th minute.

West Brom managed a goal in the 97th minute through Cedric Kipre, but it was too late to change the outcome. Southampton will now face Leeds United for a spot in the Premier League.

St Mary’s was electric, with the atmosphere arguably the best since the stadium opened in 2001.
