Jayden Daniels and the Commanders are set to face Kirk Cousins in 2024.
What are your thoughts on Jayden Daniels and Kirk Cousins facing off this season?
They are scheduled to clash in Week 17, on December 29, with the Commanders hosting the Falcons.
Cousins was the starting quarterback for Washington (then the Redskins) from 2015 to 2017. Some fans still harbor resentment towards Cousins, often overlooking his successes with the team.
He is frequently blamed for the loss to the NY Giants in the 2016 season finale. A victory would have secured a playoff spot, but the Redskins lost 19-10, with Cousins throwing two interceptions.
However, it’s also true that Washington was 6-3-1 after ten games before Trent Williams was suspended for four games due to repeated marijuana use, which impacted the team’s performance.
Cousins did not win a playoff game for Washington, but the offense has struggled since his departure, and Washington hasn’t had a winning season since 2015 and 2016 when Cousins was the quarterback.
While some dismiss the 9-7 and 8-7-1 records as barely winning seasons, it’s clear that Washington’s quarterback situation has been less effective since Cousins left.
This brings us to Jayden Daniels. It’s important not to burden him with unrealistic expectations. Although he was the second overall draft pick, this will be his rookie NFL season, and he will face a higher level of competition.
Daniels will be learning and adjusting to the faster pace of the NFL. So, it’s crucial to keep things in perspective and not expect miracles immediately.
However, it would be fantastic if he could lead Washington to their best season since Cousins.
