Teboho Mokoena, a colleague at Mamelodi Sundowns, is too talented, in Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s opinion, to be playing in the SA Premier Soccer League.
The 28-year-old star has been an important member of the South African champions, and at one point, he was connected to both Al Ahly and AFC Bournemouth of the Premier League.
Remarkably, since joining Masandawana at the beginning of the season, Ribeiro has maintained that Mokoena ought to be pursuing his career overseas.
“Among the guys with the most ability to play in Europe is Teboho Mokoena. With all the traits and attributes he possesses, it surprises me that he is my teammate in South Africa,” Ribeiro said to Thabiso Mosia on Game On Sports Show.
“You can certainly find players with that caliber and quality in the top leagues in Europe. Physically strong, he can sprint and score from beyond the box. He is equipped to play in Europe in every way.
“I was astonished by the caliber of players at Sundowns when I joined because they are the best players in the league,” he continued.
“I was astounded by the players’ transformations as well, as I was told that some of them weren’t on the same level when they first joined the club.
“There are several players who can easily play in Europe thanks to the technical team’s assistance in helping them reach their maximum potential.”
Since joining the Rhulani Mokwena-led squad in 2022, the 2022–23 Premier Soccer League Player of the Season has been an essential component of the group.
Masandawana won the inaugural African Football League [AFL], two cup competition trophies, and the PSL titles thanks in large part to Mokoena.
Hugo Broos’ team placed third in the most recent African Cup of Nations finals in Cote d’Ivoire, and the Matsatsantsa development product made a big impression.
