Former Barnsley defender Marc Roberts is set to depart from Birmingham City when his contract expires this summer. Roberts joined the Blues six years ago after being a key part of Barnsley’s defense for two years. He contributed to Barnsley’s promotion from League One and their secure finish in the Championship, along with winning the EFL Trophy at Wembley.

After making 197 appearances for Birmingham, Roberts will be leaving as a free agent. He is one of five senior players released, including former Barnsley teammate Gary Gardner.

Roberts, now 33, shared an emotional farewell on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the club’s staff, players, and managers throughout his tenure. He reflected on the turbulent but memorable times at the club, thanking the fans for their support through the tough times.

In his message, Roberts expressed optimism for Birmingham’s future under current ownership and acknowledged his family for their support, noting how they are leaving Birmingham with a growing family.
