Commanders Expected to Acquire a Playmaker with Exceptional Athletic Talent

One of the enjoyable aspects of predicting player placements in any NFL draft is speculating how they will fit with specific teams. In the case of Colorado’s defensive back/wide receiver Travis Hunter, the possibilities are numerous.

CBS Sports has projected Hunter to be selected by the Washington Commanders at No. 4 overall in an early 2025 mock draft. This scenario would pair the 2023 Paul Hornung Award winner with LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, Washington’s No. 2 overall pick in 2024.

However, Hunter and Daniels might never play together on offense, even if they end up on the same team. One of the intriguing aspects of Hunter’s potential NFL career is the uncertainty about his position — whether teams will utilize him as a lockdown corner or a dynamic wide receiver.

Hunter could excel in both roles.

“Hunter has the athletic gifts to be a top-five selection, primarily as a cornerback who can also make plays as a receiver and return man,” wrote CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso. “Another exciting element in Washington with Jayden Daniels.”

Hunter has been compared to some of the NFL’s top players at his defensive position by NFL Draft Buzz. In their latest evaluation, they likened him to New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon, and Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie.
