Birmingham City is reportedly set to meet with Paul Heckingbottom, former manager of Leeds United and Sheffield United. Heckingbottom, 46, has been out of work since leaving Sheffield United midway through the 2023/24 season as the team faced relegation from the Premier League. Notably, he previously led Sheffield United to promotion by securing a second-place finish.
Given his credentials, Birmingham City has arranged a meeting with Heckingbottom, according to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page. However, Birmingham faces competition from Plymouth Argyle, who have been without a manager since April and narrowly avoided relegation last season.
Heckingbottom’s managerial career began at Barnsley (2016-2018), followed by a brief period at Leeds, a stint at Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership, and eventually a role at Sheffield United, where he started with the Under-21 team before becoming caretaker manager.
Birmingham is considering several candidates for the managerial position, including former Stoke City, Norwich City, and Sunderland boss Alex Neil, as well as Gary Rowett, who served as interim manager for the last eight games of the season, as reported by The Telegraph.
