Smart Move: He is coming…..

Spanish club Real Betis are keenly watching the Championship play-off final between Leeds United and Southampton, as the outcome could significantly influence their transfer strategy for midfielder Marc Roca.

According to Estadio Deportivo, Betis are almost hoping for a Leeds defeat at Wembley, as this would offer the best chance to re-sign Roca without a substantial financial burden.

Roca, who is currently on loan at Betis from Leeds United, has performed well during his time in Spain. The loan agreement is set to end this summer, and although Betis have an option to purchase him permanently, they haven’t made a definitive move yet. The midfielder is reportedly eager to stay in Seville, but the financial aspects of the transfer are complicated.

Betis prefer to extend Roca’s loan rather than trigger the €12 million purchase clause in his contract. This preference is contingent on Leeds not being promoted back to the Premier League.

If Leeds lose to Southampton, a clause in Roca’s current deal would permit Betis to re-sign him on loan for another season, thereby freeing up funds for other transfers and financial obligations.

The stakes are high, and the result at Wembley could significantly impact Betis’ plans for the upcoming season. A Leeds United win would complicate matters, necessitating negotiations with the newly promoted club. These negotiations could be prolonged and difficult, particularly since Betis want to reduce the agreed €12 million fee.

Roca made 25 La Liga appearances this season, contributing two goals and two assists as a defensive midfielder.
