The Detroit Lions offensive line underwent some changes following the conclusion of the 2024 NFL season.

Starting left guard Jonah Jackson departed for the Los Angeles Rams in free agency. Detroit is banking on veteran Graham Glasgow to replicate his success from 2023. Additionally, they expect free agent acquisition Kevin Zeitler to continue his impressive performance in Motown after leaving the Baltimore Ravens.

In a recent list of NFL draft sleepers with potential for immediate impact, The Athletic highlighted rookie offensive lineman Christian Mahogany as a player whose skills should quickly translate to the NFL.

According to writer Nick Baumgardner, “Mahogany could have been a Day 2 pick if not for injury concerns. Similar to Jackson when he entered the league, Mahogany possesses the kind of strength and aggressive style that should immediately suit the NFL game. While Mahogany will initially compete with veteran Kevin Zeitler, he should seamlessly transition into a backup role if he starts as the sixth lineman. He’s poised to become a future starter in Detroit and fits well within the team’s culture.”

Detroit has earned a strong reputation, largely due to offensive line coach Hank Fraley’s work in developing a top-tier unit over the past few seasons.

For Mahogany, joining Detroit’s roster presents the ideal opportunity to realize his potential, despite slipping in the draft.

“Being selected where I was is a blessing,” Mahogany expressed at rookie minicamp. “I’m grateful it was Detroit, and I’m eager to move forward after my draft slip.

“The offensive line culture here is strong, and I believe the Lions boast one of the best offensive line groups in the NFL. I see it as a chance for me, at this point in my career, to absorb and learn from guys like Penei Sewell, Glasgow, (Taylor) Decker, and Zeitler. It’s a special opportunity for growth and learning, and I’m excited for what lies ahead.”
