HE IS COMING: A mega star player committed to the Warrington Wolves team just…..
Luke Yates’ transfer to Warrington Wolves for the 2025 season has been confirmed.
Yates highlighted that working under Sam Burgess, someone he considers an idol, was a major influence in his decision to join the team. The forward, who has captained Huddersfield Giants for the past three seasons and is known for his exceptional work ethic, signed a two-year contract with Warrington, set to begin next year.
Currently, Yates is expected to be the only new addition to the squad for next year, unless second-rower Matty Nicholson’s rumored move to the NRL materializes.
In a recent Challenge Cup semi-final, Yates was seen tackling Paul Vaughan. Yates expressed his commitment to leading by example when he joins Warrington, emphasizing his dedication to contributing to the team’s success and his excitement to play in front of the Warrington fans.
“The chance to play for Warrington under Sam Burgess is significant for me. I idolized Sam when he played in the NRL, and the opportunity to learn from him was a big factor in my decision. I aim to lead by example with my work ethic and contribute to the team’s success from next season,” Yates stated.
Yates previously played alongside Warrington’s second-rower Lachlan Fitzgibbon in Australia, coming through the ranks together at Newcastle Knights before moving to the Super League in 2019 with London Broncos, then joining Salford Red Devils, and later following coach Ian Watson to Huddersfield.
He has since become one of the top defensive players in the league, leading the tackle charts in the 2023 season with 1,027 tackles at an average of 42 per game. Since arriving in England, Yates has consistently ranked among the top 10 tacklers each season.
Sam Burgess praised Yates, stating, “Luke is an outstanding player, known for his consistency and hard work. He will bring great quality and leadership to our pack, and I am excited to work with him next season.”
